Now I declare you uninvited.
A Redditor who goes by @Powerful-Lettuce-999 posted online that she wasn’t invited to her friend’s wedding after paying over $1,000 for her flight to Asia.
The user shared her unfortunate scenario in August. 25, detailing the depressing feeling when she discovered she could no longer attend the bridal party.
“I feel very embarrassed because I already told my friends and family that I was invited to a destination wedding and telling people that I was not invited is very embarrassing,” she wrote.
As the wedding approached, the bride contacted the group of friends, warning them that there was insufficient accommodation for them, so they could not attend.
“Hey guys, I’m so sorry to break it to you, but I don’t have any accommodation left for all of you for the wedding. I sincerely apologize. I hope you all haven’t booked your tickets yet,” the friend wrote.
Devastated by the news, the Reddit user sent her a private message, letting her know that he had already attended the destination wedding.
“I literally just booked my tickets and everything like three days ago because our agent knew and found something,” she wrote. “I’ll try to cancel, but I don’t think I can. I understand how space was limited for the family and everything, so that’s fine, no worries.”
Although disappointed, the uninvited wedding party tried to be understanding about the unfortunate situation.
Fortunately, she didn’t have to stay in grief for long because the bride relented and confirmed, “She’ll figure something out,” so her friend could attend the wedding.
However, her only obligation was to keep it a secret from the other uninvited friends.
“Please don’t tell the rest of the group. She said the hotel staff isn’t swinging for accommodations or anything,” the bride said.
The nondisclosure agreement wasn’t right, so she thought about not going.
“I feel very bad about all this. I wish she had at least extended wedding invitations if they can’t make accommodations, I would understand and book my own accommodations,” she revealed.
The Redditor claimed that if she canceled her flight, she might be able to get a partial refund, but if she attended the wedding, she’d feel bad that her friends wouldn’t make the cut.
Confused about what to do, she asked her fellow Redditors for help, “Please [give me] any advice?”
“If I had already paid for the tickets, I’d go and have a mini vacation, whether she wanted me in the wedding or not,” one person suggested.
“Makes me think she invited more people than she could have accommodated and didn’t think many people would show up to her destination wedding,” wrote another.
“Are there zero hotels or airbnbs in the area?” asked one Redditor.
The original poster replied: “There are many. That’s why I’m confused. I will ask again if the issue is the accommodation or the size of the wedding in general.”
“You shouldn’t feel embarrassed at all, but your friend should be terrified. What they have done is incredibly rude,” one person commented.
Screw this ‘friend’. If you can’t cancel your flight, change it and go somewhere else. Life is too short to have people like that in it,” declared one Redditor.
